Error description
When selecting a database in the DP Restore Tree Panel, all proper full and log backups in the Restore Databases view of the right panel become auto-selected. So far this behaviour is according to design. The defect consists in the impossibility to check/uncheck individual logs in the Restore Databases view. An attempt to uncheck one log results in unchecking all logs, and an attempt to check one log results in all logs becoming checked. The problem occures when there is no acssql.lic file within the installation directory. This behaviour can result in restore failure, if one or more of the auto-selected logs do not fit into the log chain required for recovery of the full backup in the same view. In the observed case, the 1st log in the list was refused by MS-SQL API: . tdpsql.log ---------- Restore of KAE\20090301025726\00000844 failed. An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. The log in this backup set terminates at LSN 21191000014580100001, which is too early to apply to the database. A more recent log backup that includes LSN 21191000017828000001 can be restored. RESTORE LOG is terminating abnormally. Changed database context to 'master'. (HRESULT:0x80131501) Restore of KAE\20090301035147\000015AC failed. because of the preceeding failure or point-in-time recovery. . TSM Versions Affected: TDP MS-SQL v5.5 Initial Impact: Medium Additional Keywords: GUI restore recovery selection point-in-time
Local fix
Use the tdpsqlc command line for performing the desired restore/recovery.
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server * * clients. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: See ERROR DESCRIPTION. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply fixing level when available. This * * problem is currently projected to be fixed * * in level 5.5.3. Note that this is subject * * to change at the discretion of IBM. * **************************************************************** If there is no acssql.lic, the smart selection works. It does not allow selecting individual logs. By the current design, the smart selection works in the following cases: - restore database - only if CS is not installed; - restore group/file - always.
Problem conclusion
The smart selection is changed to allow checking/unchecking individual logs in the selected "Full" + "Logs" bundle.
