Question & Answer
Question
Tivoli Storage Manager Server version 7.1 for Linux x86_64 requires RHEL 6 while Server version 6.2 can run on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3 or higher. How can the server be upgraded from v6.2 running RHEL 5 to v7.1 on RHEL 6?
Answer
The Tivoli Storage Manager Installation Guide shows the following supported versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), in the section titled "Linux X86_64 server requirements":
1. Versions 6.2 Installation Guide:
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, Update 3 or later
2. Versions 6.3 Installation Guide:
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, Update 3 or later
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
3. Version 7.1 Installation Guide:
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
Upgrading directly to version 7.1 on RHEL 5.3 or higher, is not supported so the work around is to first upgrade to the latest version of 6.3, because this version is supported on both RHEL 5.3 and RHEL 6. With the old system upgraded to version 6.3, this version can now be migrated over to the new hardware running RHEL 6. Once the new hardware is safely running Tivoli Storage Manager 6.3, the server can be upgraded to version 7.1.
