Question & Answer
Question
A resource is not starting and stopping as expected. Where is a good place to look to determine the cause of the problem.
Cause
Looking at a resource in INGLIST, and a Resource is Down when it should be UP. What is causing the problem and preventing the resource from starting?
Answer
INGLIST option "X INGLKUP" is a good place to start. This option lists all of the potential
problems that might hinder the resource reaching the desired status. The display will simply
show the resources concerned and a note of the potential problems that have been detected with them.
Let's look at some examples:
Here we see that CMDRCVR should be UP because the Desired Status is AVAILABLE, but the resource
is currently in HARDDOWN status according to the Agent (the Observed Status). HARDDOWN means the
resource is unavailable and automation will not restart it.

And we see Option X shows the following. Note that the Examined State is UP as we want the resource to
be Available or UP. If we wanted to know why the resource would not stop, we would specify DOWN.
In this case, the first option looks like the best - the resource is in a Agent status (Observed) that does
not allow a restart. Remember with HARDDOWN, automation will not start the resource. As suggested,
use SETSTATE to put the resource into a state that will allow Automation to restart it such as SOFTDOWN.

Here is another example with LOOPJOB. We see that the resource is in HARDDOWN, but the Desired
state is UNAVAILABLE. UNAVAILABLE means that the resource should be STOPPED. Why is it in
this state?

In this case, the second option is the likely candidate. The Desired Status is OnDemand which means
that a Operator must manually start it, or it could be down due to a Service Period or an application group
request.

Option X can also be used to show why a Group is in a PROBLEM state. What is keeping the Group
from being up and AVAILABLE?

In this case, we see that one of the members of the group - INGAHPPI is STOPPED. Once this group
member is put into Available status, the Group will show in AVAILABLE status.
