Security Bulletin
Summary
A security vulnerability has been discovered in OpenSSL in some 4.1 FlashCopy Manager components
Vulnerability Details
CVE-ID: CVE-2014-0160
DESCRIPTION: OpenSSL could allow a remote attacker to obtain sensitive information, caused by an error in the TLS/DTLS heartbeat functionality. Warning: We strongly encourage you to take action as soon as possible as potential implications to your environment may be more serious than indicated by the CVSS score.
Affected Products and Versions
A subset of FlashCopy Manager 4.1 components are affected when used with a NetApp or IBM N-series storage device. The components are:
UNIX and LINUX
- 4.1 FlashCopy Manager for DB2
- 4.1 FlashCopy Manager for Custom Applications
- 4.1 FlashCopy Manager for Oracle
- 4.1 FlashCopy Manager for Oracle (with SAP environments)
VMware:
- 4.1 FlashCopy Manager for VMware
These FCM 4.1 components are vulnerable only when they initiate and maintain a communication session with a NetApp or IBM N series storage device. The vulnerability does not exist during communication sessions with other types of storage devices or when an external program attempts to initiate an OpenSSL session with FCM.
The following are NOT affected and do NOT require an update:
- FlashCopy Manager 4.1 Windows components
- FlashCopy Manager 3.2
- FlashCopy Manager 3.1
- FlashCopy Manager 2.2
- FlashCopy Manager 2.1
Remediation/Fixes
After applying the fix, additional instructions are needed for CVE-2014-0160
- Reset User Credentials of NetApp or IBM N-series storage devices
Passwords for accounts to connect to NetApp or IBM N-series storage devices should be reset.
Warning: Your environment may require additional fixes for other products, including non-IBM products. Please replace the SSL certificates and reset the user credentials after applying the necessary fixes to your environment.
