Error description
Performance issue with the SmarTeam Integration for SolidWorks. When opening assemblies that contain part files or a part that is highly configured (sample part files attached to the SR), it takes an extremely long time to open the files in SolidWorks. Simply opening the part files in SolidWorks with the SmarTeam Integration enabled causes a long load time versus opening the part file without the SmarTeam Integration enabled. We have also noticed that during the opening of the part files with the SmarTeam Integration enabled, the user's Windows TEMP folder (%TEMP%) begins to populate with large .TMP files being created. This begins to fill the Windows TEMP folder with these .TMP files. Once the part file is opened, the .TMP file creation is also completed. The environment is SmarTeam V5R20 SP5 with SolidWorks 2011 SP3.0. Use Client - Windows XP 64 bit SP2 and Server - Windows 2008 Server. PLMDB can be used. Next preferences were set: DMT expand setting set to 1. Default preference SolidWorks.LoadPropertiesOnOpen=NO. The Client SmarTeam Work directory is on Local drive of the Client computer. No any additional (except of standard) setting or changes were reported for SW and SmarTeam. Vault Services should run. The vaults were located on the Foundation server. No any Mapped drive and no SmarTeam Work directory on a Network drive is used. The following are the steps to reproduce the issue: 1) Start SolidWorks without the SmarTeam Integration enabled 2) Open the SolidWorks part file 11005-0009.SLDPRT . 3) After the part file is opened in SolidWorks, go to the Windows TEMP folder by going to Start, Run, enter %TEMP% and hit enter. a. Note that no large file size .TMP files exist in the folder 4) Close SolidWorks 5) Open SolidWorks 6) Enable the SmarTeam Integration add-in. Login to SmarTeam as user "admin" in PLMDB 7) Open the SolidWorks part file named 11005-0009.SLDPRT. 8) After the part file is finally opened in SolidWorks, go to the Windows TEMP Folder by gong to Start, Run, enter %TEMP% and hit enter a. Note the large temp files and the time it takes to open the file is considerably longer Current Results: In step 7 above, the time it takes to open the SolidWorks part is considerably longer that the time it took to open the same part file in Step 2. BE Note: In BE tests in step 2 there were 15 s needed for opening the Part file, while in step 7 there were 6 min needed for opening the same Part file. Expected Results: The time it takes to open the part file as performed during step 7 (with the SmarTeam Integration enabled) should be similar to the time it takes to the same Part file as performed in step 2 (without the SmarTeam Integration enabled). BE Note: After the fix the time in in step 7 cannot be the same as in step 2, besides a difference in the times should be reasonable, say to be ranged in per cents, but not to be greater in 24 times, as reported. The fix should be tested for both cases: for the File Saved to SmarTeam, Checked In and Copied previously onto Local Work directory, and for the File that is not Saved to SmarTeam, but placed onto Local Work directory.
