IBM InfoSphere DataStage: Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Studio 2012 C/C++ compilers (cl.exe) do not compile UTF-8 encoded source files correctly

Troubleshooting

Problem

The Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Studio 2012 C/C++ compilers (cl.exe) do not compile UTF-8 encoded source files correctly resulting in incorrect conversion of string literal values.

Symptom

Incorrect conversion of string literal values in compiled transform operators or buildops results in run time warnings "Invalid character(s)" and job startup failures. This is most often seen when non-English characters are used in column name definitions.
