Error description

  • Scenario:
    1. Open CATIA.
    2. Open in Part design the CATPart provided.
    3. Activate ???Sketch??? and select the surface.
    4. Make a circle with the following parameters: diameter =
    30mm, collinear with V axis,
distance between H and circle center = 50mm.
    5. Exit workbench.
    6. Activate ???Pocket???.
    An error will appear:
    Feature Definition error:
    Topological operators: internal error
    7. Select ???OK??? on error and then ???Cancel???.
    8. Activate ???Hole??? and then select an area inside the circle
    .
Another feature definition error will appear if the default
    parameters of the hole are:
Blind, 10 for Diameter and 10 for Depth.
    9. Select ???OK??? on error and then modify Depth value to 25,
then click in the Diameter field.

same problem with the Another CATPart
    Expected result:
Possibility for the user to make a (through)hole on the part.

Problem conclusion

  • THIS PROBLEM IS PERMANENT RESTRICTION IN CATIA
    Additional Closure Information:
    Incident Diagnosis:
Unable to do a hole and a pocket on a solid body as a sheet
    folded and joined on itself
    Reason:
ThickSurface operator doesn't search for collisions or
    confusions between topologically
distant parts of a model, for time consuming reasons. Only
local clashes and confusions are solved.
That's why there are two superimposed faces in ThickSurface
    result.
This result is compliant with ThickSurface operator
    specifications.
But this configuration is problematic for Hole and Pocket
    operators.
    The situation is not handled.
To solve the confusion between faces, it is necessary to run
    a boolean operator which involves
them, because boolean operators simplify geometrical supports
    and their topologies when possible.

    By-Pass:
Perform an operation boolean to simplify the body.
