Error description

  • SCENARIO
Same surface is expressed as a different name
For selection of "Neutral Element / Selection" and "Pulling
    Direction / Selection ". E.g.Neutral Element / Selection =
    "Volume Extrude.Face.2" , Pulling Direction /
    Selection  = "Volume "Extrude.Face.1"
    .
    EXPECTED RESULT:c
When choosing a face of form as "Selection" of "Draft",
the name of "Neutral Element / Selection and Pulling
Direction / Selection " should be expressed as the same name.

Problem conclusion

  • THIS PROBLEM IS PERMANENT RESTRICTION IN CATIA
    Additional Closure Information:
    Incident Diagnosis:
Different name is displayed in neutral element and the
    pulling direction field respectively
when same face is selected for both.
    .
    Reason:
The naming is done in that manner (different names) to keep
its unique identification with respect to the input selection
i.e. neutral element or pulling direction.
If the same name is given, then it might result in unexpected
results e.g. even if the element
is removed from one of the input criteria, it may get removed
from the other one as well. Due
to this unpredictable nature, this restriction has been
    imposed.
    .
Also, the difference in naming does not affect any of the
draft geometrical results. Its just that
the display of names in the respective field is different.
    .
In the OK case mentioned in scenario text, a total feature is
    selected ( xy-plane ) and not a part
of feature ( e.g. face, edge, vertex ). Thus, since the
feature has its unique name it is displayed the same in both.
Hence it is a restriction that the naming cannot be same.
