Error description

  • SCENARIO:
    .
    1. Start CATIA.
    2. Create a new CATPart and create a Simple Rectangular Pad.
    3. Open a new Drawing.
    4. Create a new front view.
    5. Create dimensions using horizontal + intersection point.

    6. Add one dimension without intersection point.

    7. Create a call out (Broken View).
    .
    RESULTS:
The dimensions with intersection point become incorrect.
    .
    EXPECTED RESULTS:
The Dimensions with the intersection points should be shown
    correctly.

Comments

  • Dear Customer: we have reviewed the problem report you
submitted and determined that the function referenced is
working within the scope of the original design
specification. However we recognize the value of your
feedback and will consider including resolution of this issue
as a product enhancement in a future release, if one is made
available. We thank you for your input.
    Additional Closure Information:
    Incident Diagnosis:
DRAFTING(GENDRAFT) / Wrong dimension in Broken View
    .
    Development Request Justification:
Dimensions between intersection points measure the distance
between 2D points. Thus, in case of generated views, as these
2D points are constrained on the generated geometry, they are
impacted by generative view operations like breaks for broken
views. As a result, the dimension may not reflect the true 3D
part/product value. For example, a distance dimension between
two intersection points will show a value smaller than the
distance measured on the 3D part, when the view is broken
    between these points.
Such a break operation in a generative drafting is only
applicable to the geometry generated from the
3D objects. The 2D geometry added in the view does not take
into account the break operation. In the case of 2D geometry
constrained on the 3D geometry, like intersection points, the
2D geometry will move along with the 3D geometry (as it is
constrained on it), thus changing the measured value
Integrating the break operations in the computation of
dimensions for intersection points is an enhancement request
which requires changing the way such dimensions are managed
    in CATIA. This
is an impacting enhancement which currently has no targeted
    release.
    .
    By-Pass:
As only the dimensions on 3D geometry will take into account
the break in order to compute their value, then a 3D geometry
that corresponds to the 3D intersection point needs to be
created, allowing to create the dimension on this : e.g. 3d
points or 3D wireframe have to be created on the 3D design to
represent this intersection (or fillet original edge in this
case), and this geometry is the one to be selected for
    dimensioning in the generative view
