Creating a nickname against an Oracle synonym (in a Oracle database) returns SQL0204N

Troubleshooting

Problem

Creating a nickname against an Oracle synonym (in a Oracle database) fails with SQL0204N

Symptom

The 'create nickname' command fails with SQL0204N. For example, if 'otable' is an Oracle Synonym then the following command:

db2 create nickname mynick for otable
will fail with:
DB21034E  The command was processed as an SQL statement because it was not a
valid Command Line Processor command.  During SQL processing it returned:
    SQL0204N  "otable" is an undefined
    name. SQLSTATE=42704

Similar 'create nickname' command works against Oracle Tables and Views.
