An LUA application using the deprecated "application scheduling"
method of managing multiple sessions will occasionally encounter
a hang on some of those sessions when "sna stop; sna start" is
issued while the application is running. The application does
not receive the BIND RQ or SDT RQ that CommServer received from
the mainframe, so does not know to respond.

Local fix

  • Stop the LUA application. Stop/restart SNA. Restart the LUA
application.

Problem summary

  • An LUA application using the deprecated "application scheduling"
method of managing multiple sessions will occasionally
encounter a hang on some of those sessions when "sna stop; sna
start" is issued while the application is running. The
application does not receive the BIND RQ or SDT RQ that
CommServer received from the mainframe, so does not know to
respond.

The problem occurs when the single-threaded application using
appplication scheduling stays running during a recycling of the
SNA node and the SNA library is trying to generate logs (in this
case an exception log to report the failure of RUI_INIT).

Problem conclusion

  • A change has been made to the CS/AIX library to prevent this
problem from occurring. A return code COMM_SUBSYSTEM_NOT_LOADED
will be returned when an application first reissues RUI_INIT
after the "sna stop".

Temporary fix

  • Stop the LUA application. Stop/restart SNA. Restart the LUA
application.
