Error description

  • A restart of the Tivoli Storage Manager for Space Management
recall daemon (dsmrecalld) may destroy all DMAPI sessions in
    use by dsmmigrate processes.
As a result the dsmmigrate processes will not migrate any
further file(s). Instead you will find the following messages
in the dsmerror.log for each file that migration fails for:
ANS9511E dsmmigrate: cannot read DM attributes on session
    512B79F800000000 for
    file: name = /test/.SpaceMan/dmiFSState handle =
    C0A865D35118AE7D-000000000BC53018-0000000000000000-0001000200000
    000 token = DM_NO_TOKEN. Reason : Invalid argument
ANS9084E dsmmigrate: /test is not managed or not locally managed
    by space management.

The session id, the name and the handle of the ANS9511E message
are the same the whole time, until the migration process ends.

    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
Tivoli Storage Manager for Space Management on UNIX:
    6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4

    Initial Impact:
    Medium

    Additional Keywords:
TSM, dsmrecalld, DMAPI, session, migrate, recall

Local fix

  • Do not restart the dsmrecalld while dsmmigrate processes are
    active.

Problem conclusion

  • The problem has been fixed so that it no longer occurs. After
the fix, dsmrecalld daemon will not terminate DMAPI-sessions,
owned by alive processes. Only orphaned DMAPI-sessions will be
    terminated.

Temporary fix
