IC69981: "ANR2971E DATABASE BACKUP/RESTORE/ROLLFORWARD TERMINATED - DB2 SQLCODE -2542" DURING DATABASE RESTORE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When restoring a Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Server 6.1 or 6.2
  database where a TSM Client 6.2 was installed during the backup
  of the database, but only the TSM Server is installed during the
  restore, the restore will fail with:
    ANR2971E Database backup/restore/rollforward terminated - DB2
    sqlcode -2542
  
  Chronological order of events leading to problem:
  - install TSM Server 6.1 or 6.2
  - install TSM Client 6.2
  - backup the TSM Server database
  - rebuild machine
  - install TSM Server
  - restore DB and it fails
  
  L2 Diagnostic:
  An API trace will show the following:

  This happens because the database backup and restore uses the
  TSM API currently installed on the machine.  TSM Server 6.1 and
  6.2 both ship with the TSM API 6.1, but if the TSM Client 6.2
  is later installed, subsequent backups will use the TSM 6.2 API.
  Since data backed with the 6.2 API cannot be restored with the
  6.1 API, the restore fails.
  Versions Affected: Server 6.1 and 6.2 on all platforms

Local fix

• Intall the same TSM Client version that was on the TSM Server
  when the database backup was taken.  A newer TSM Client  version
  will also work.
