Error description
In the 4690 OS User's guide, we state: . Notes: 1. When the system is running Supplementals from the hard drive, the hard drive formatting utilities (CPREP and DPREP) are not supported because the hard drive is in use. . However, if you attempt to do it, it works. I was able to CPREP the controller on a V6R4 test system. * It warm booted to "W505 vx_ct8sl.286". * A cold boot results in a blank screen after the TGCS splash screen and cycling through some linux steps.
Local fix
Problem summary
When the controller booted supplementals from the hard drive, a CPREP or DPREP erased some files from the hard drive.
Problem conclusion
Validation was added during the format to let the OS know if the controller booted supplementals from the HD, if so the format will fail. . Once the fix is installed, it will display the following general CPREP/DPREP error message: . An error occurred trying to cprep the hard disk drive. Please check your hardware and media. .
