IO06481: OMNI SCANNER NOT DETECTED ON ANYPLACE KIOSK (4838-135) WITH PTF 224447

APAR status

  • Closed as user error.

Error description

  • Scanner is working when using IRES 2.1.3 'default' kernel. PTF
kernel was requested by development from Novell because
of USB issues with IRES 2.1.3 'default' kernel. I am using a
'Linux Tuned for Browser Based Application' image.

When using the PTF kernel there is a message in
    /var/log/boot.msg saying:

    <notice>start services (setup232)
    setup232: Configured RS232 ports for [ 4838135 ]...
Scanner found on /dev/ and mapped to /dev/ttyS3
/bin/stty: /dev/ttyS3: Inappropriate ioctl for device
    setup232: Kiosk ports are setup
    done<notice>exit status of (setup232) is (0)

After boot '/dev/ttyS3' is linked to '/dev' what makes no sense!
So it looks like the changes from PTF 224447 broke the kernel
    for kiosk scanner.
