Error description

  • he problem appears to be with ToolKit.getImage(URL). Using Java
    1.4.2 and 1.5, every time this call is made, the applet jar is
    re-downloaded from the server. Sun's workaround involves using
    ImageIcon and BufferedImage to create the customer cursor.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • Using JRE 1.4 versions, when the applet viewer is initialized,
    the viewer jar file is downloaded
    into the client machine for each toolbar icons. This is a big
    impact on the applet performance.This is indeed a JDK bug, for

    The problem is fixed in CM83 FP4
    

Problem conclusion

  • To workaround the JDK bug, create a urlconnection object to load
    the image icon and set the useCaches to true for this
    urlconnection instance.
