IT24208: MEMORY LEAK ON LIBRARY CLIENT SERVERS

APAR status

• Closed as duplicate of another APAR.

Error description

• Customers may see a memory leak on server instances acting as
  library clients.  The memory leak occurs when the library client
  polls the library manager for information about shared libraries
  and drives.  The amount of memory allocated by the library
  client during polling will vary depending on the number of
  shared libraries/drives returned by the library manager server.
  By default, the library client will poll the library manager at
  5 minute intervals.  The output from the SHOW ALLOC command will
  show a gradual increase in the number of memory allocation
  requests and the count of allocated bytes associated with the
  smQuerySharedLibrary() routine, as seen in the following
  example:
  
     smlshare.c line 732: 456624 entries for 138813696 bytes
     (smQuerySharedLibrary) thread 44(MmsLibraryPollingThread
     parent=1)
  
  Over a period of time, this memory leak could potentially affect
  system performance and/or result in a server outage.
  
  Spectrum Protect Versions Affected:
  All server versions on all platforms
  
  Initial Impact:
  Low

• If necessary, restart the server instance to release any memory
  allocated by the Spectrum Protect server
