APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When trying to install bash rpm on 2.1.8.0 IBM OS image for AIX
  
  the output is
  cp: /bin/bash: A file or directory in the path name does not
  exist.
  rpm_share: 0645-007 ATTENTION: update_file() returned an
  unexpected result.
  rpm_share: 0645-007 ATTENTION: update_inst_root() returned an
  unexpected result.
  

Local fix

• Instuctions to patch deployed VM and image.
  
  For deployed VM:
  
  1. Download the rpm.rte file set from the following location and
  scp it to /var/tmp on the VM
  
  ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/aix/freeSoftware/aixtoolbox/INSTALLP/pp
  c/rpm.rte
  
  2. issue the following command to update rpm.rte
  
     installp -d /var/tmp -acgXY rpm.rte
  
  After applying rpm.rte 4.9.1.3, you should be able to install or
  update rpms.
  
  For image:
  
  IBM OS Image for AIX Systems 2.1.8.0 and 2.1.9.0 have this issue
  that rpm can not be installed or updated.
  You can use extend/capture to create new image
  
  1.  From catalog,  click "IBM OS Image for AIX Systems" 2.1.8.0
  or 2.1.9.0,  click "extend"
  
  2.  On the extended instance:
  
      a. Download the rpm.rte file set from the following location
  and scp it to /var/tmp on the VM
  
  
  ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/aix/freeSoftware/aixtoolbox/INSTALLP/pp
  c/rpm.rte
  
      b. issue the following command to update rpm.rte
  
         installp -d /var/tmp -acgXY rpm.rte
  
  3.  click "capture"
  
  then you can use the new image with rpm.rte at 4.9.1.3 level
  

Problem summary

• When trying to install bash rpm on 2.1.8.0 IBM OS image for AIX
  the output is cp: /bin/bash: A file or directory in the path
  name does not
  exist.
  

Problem conclusion

• A code fix is being provided in the IBM OS Pattern Kit included
  in PureApplication System and BlueMix Local System version
  2.2.5.0
