IT19175: JAXB UNMARSHALLING OF DFDL MESSAGE TREE CAN RESULT IN NPE IF THEMESSAGE TREE HAS A NULL ELEMENT

Error description

• If a JavaCompute node uses JAXB's unmarshal API to unmarshal a
  DFDL message tree which contains a null element then the
  operation can fail with a java.lang.NullPointerException.
  
  Broker syslog file will show a BIP4395E with following error
  message :

Problem conclusion

• The product now introduced a new API -
  MbMessage.getDOMDocument(boolean emptyStringForNull).  Once this
  function is invoked with 'true' as 'emptyStringForNull' argument
  value then empty string ("") is used as the value for null
  elements.
  
  Now
  jaxbContext.createUnmarshaller().unmarshal(inMessage.getDOMDocum
  ent(true)) statement can be used to unmarshal the DFDL message
  tree which contains null elements to avoid the
  NullPointerException.
