Version 7.1.4.2 Interim Fix: Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server

APAR status

• Closed as documentation error.

Error description

• The manual of Tivoli Storage Manager for Databases: Data
  Protection for Microsoft SQL Server describes the usage
  of /sqlserver option to establish the communication with
  SQL Server instances.
  
  In the documentation, only the usage of sqlprotocol and
  sqlservername are described.
  
  Additionally, a port can be only defined if the sqlprotocol
  is tcp. This parameter is optional and if not defined
  the default port is 1433.
  
  Usage: /sqlserver=tcp:sqlservername,port
  
  Support for the VIA connection protocol was discontinued by
  Microsoft beginning with SQL Server 2012. They recommend to
  use TCP instead.
  
  A list of all possible protocols and usage:
  1. Shared memory protocol:
   /sqlserver=lpc:<servername>[\instancename]
  2. Named Pipes: server=np:hostname
   You can optionally specify a specific named pipe.
   /sqlserver=np:\\hostname\pipe\pipeName
   By default, the pipe name is sql\query. If you connect to
   a named instance, the pipe name is typically in the f
   following format:
   MSSQL$instnaceName\sql\query
  3. Transmission Control:
   /sqlserver=tcp:<servername>[\instancename],port
   By default port is 1433.
  4. VIA: /sqlserver=via:virtualservername[\instancename]
  
  The documentation needs to be updated to describe more detailed
  the usage of /sqlserver option.

Problem conclusion

• In the Tivoli Storage Manager for Databases: Data Protection for
  Microsoft SQL Server documentation, the description of the
  /SQLSERVER parameter (to establish the communication with SQL
  Server instances) was enhanced to include information about
