nzsql DROP or TRUNCATE commands hang

Question & Answer

Question

Why do DROP and TRUNCATE commands appear to be hanging?

Answer

If you run the DROP or TRUNCATE command on a table and it is taking an unusually long time to complete, check whether a backup of the database is in progress. While a backup is running on a database, you cannot drop or truncate a table in that database until the backup completes. The DROP TABLE and TRUNCATE TABLE commands will appear to hang until the backup finishes.
