On an Oracle based system, RPCSRV.exe receives an application error with Faulting address 0x0000000 - Sterling Gentran:Server for Microsoft Windows

Troubleshooting

Problem

On an Oracle based system, RPCSRV.exe receives an application error with Faulting address 0x0000000

Symptom

RPCSRV.exe is identified with an application error during a file collection, with raised exception of RaiseException (7c8285ff).  This appears to occur when Gentran is using an Oracle ODBC driver version that is not the same version as the database engine or the customer has upgraded to Oracle10.2g.

In this case, the customer was running an Oracle 10.2 database with an Oracle 10.1 driver.  This behavior has been seen with 9i drivers also.

Error Message

Application Error Error (100) 1000  Faulting application RpcSrv.exe, version 5.0.0.36, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000.

Inspection of the DrWatson32.log will reveal a Fault with the following text as typical of the issue with the bad driver:
