Error description
Inventory Reservations are being removed incorrectly when an issue to the work order fails with an error of "The available balance will become negative as a result of this transaction". When this happens, we end with work orders stuck in WMATL status and the reorder is never fired for the item. Steps to reproduce: Login to Maximo Go to Administration > Organizations > Search Org e.g. EAGLENA Inventory Options > Inventory Defaults Under Negative Balance Options, select "Dissallow Negative Balance" in Negative Current Balance and Negative Available Balance Click OK Save. Go to Inventory > Item Master Create new Item: TEST0726 Order Unit: Each Issue Unit: Each Add items to Storeroom Storeroom: Central Issue Cost Type: FIFO Unit Cost: 10 Default Bin: TEST Current Balance: 10 Click OK Change status to Active and tick Roll New Status to Organizations and Inventory? Click OK Go to Work Order > Work Order Tracking Create new record: WO0726A Location: BR4000 Go to Plans tab > Materials sub-tab Item: TEST0726 Quantity: 8 Unit Cost: 10 Storeroom: CENTRAL Click Save Change Status to Approve Go to Inventory > Inventory Look for the item: TEST0726 Select Add/Modify Reservations and look for the item Notice that there is 1 reservation that is APHARD Go back to Work Order > Work Order Tracking Create new record: WO0726B Location: BR4000 Go to Plans tab > Materials sub-tab Item: TEST0726 Quantity: 5 Unit Cost: 10 Storeroom: CENTRAL Click Save Change Status to Approve Go back to Inventory > Inventory Look for the item: TEST0726 Select Add/Modify Reservations and look for the item This time, we see our original with APHARD status and new reservation with a BACKORDER status. Go back to the Second Work Order we created (WO0726B) Go to Actuals tab Go to Materials sub-tab Click Select Reserved Items Select the line that is BACKORDER and has quantity of 5 Click OK Save Work Order This will cause an error to display. "The available balance will become negative as a result of this transaction" Click OK Delete the actual material line we tried to add and save the Work Order Go back to Inventory and search for the item Select Add/Modify Reservations and look for the item The BACKORDER reservation is gone. - This is not correct. The reservation was never fulfilled because of the error we received when attempting to issue it to the second work order. If you go back to the second Work Order, the status is still Approve/WMATL. However, nothing will ever be ordered for it. So it will just sit there.
