Error description

  • APAR Type: Field
    Approver Initials: sm
    Severity: 2
    Reported Release: 630
Compid: 5724C04PS Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server
ABSTRACT: Empty MSL is not created correctly by
    Tivoli
                          Enterprise Portal Client

Empty MSL is supported by CLI/GUI starting tms630fp2, it's not
    creatable from the TEP GUI.
User can create MSL without any members in GUI but it's not
created in TEMS - tacmd viewsystem list doesn't show it.

Also, when the GUI removes the last entry from the MSL at
version 6.3 fp3, the empty MSL remains live.
However the MSL is removed completely with 6.3 fp4 and later.

    RECREATE INSTRUCTIONS:
    For the problem 1.

    1) create MSL test from GUI do not add any MS
    2) Use tacmd viewsystemlist -l test
       - Result doesn't show that MSL doesn't exist.

    For the problem 2.
    1) use tacmd createsystemlist -l test - to create MSL
    2) Use tacmd viewsystemlist -l test - list is shown with no
    assigned managed systems
    3) Use tacmd editsystemlist -f -l test -a Primary:SLJ-ITM633:NT
     - to assign a MS
    4) Use tacmd viewsystemlist -l test - to list and see the MS
    listed.
    5) Use the GUI to remove the MS just added (as it is shown in
    the GUI)
    6) tacmd viewsystemlist -l test

results at 6.3 FP03 this list the MSL with no assigned managed
    systems
results at 6.3 FP04 this states that the system list does not
    exist,
and bringing up the GUI there is no longer a MSL of this name.

Local fix

  • For the problem 1.
    - Add managed systems to MSL and save. Reopen the object editor
    and
remove the managed systems. It'll create an empty MSL in TEMS.
    For the problem 2.
    ( For 6.3 FP04 and later ),
    Set "KFW_CMW_REMOVE_MSL_MEMBER_EARLY" as Y.
It'll not remove the empty MSL from GUI/TEMS.

Problem summary

  • Empty Managed System List is not manipulated correctly by Tivoli
Enterprise Portal Client. Empty Managed System List is
supported by Tivoli Enterprise Portal Client and tacmd command
starting ITM Tivoli Monitoring 6.3 Fix Pack 2 . However, Empty
Managed System List is not creatable from Tivoli Enterprise
    Portal Client.

Also, when Managed System List removes the last managed system
member from Tivoli Enterprise Portal Client, it removes the
    empty Managed System List.
The Emtpy MSL remains live in IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.3 Fix
Pack 2 and Fix Pack 3.

Problem conclusion

  • Code was changed to send adequate sql to Tivoli Enterprise
Monitoring Server to have the synchronized managed system lists
between Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server and Tivoli Enterprise
    Monitoring Server.

The fix for this APAR is contained in the following maintenance
    packages:

      | fix pack | 6.3.0-TIV-ITM-FP0006
