Question & Answer
Question
When connecting with the GENTRAN ftpd does access to the ftpd port need to be open through the firewall? (SCI57115)
Cause
A firewall can block both inbound and outbound access.  When connecting to
a non-standard ftp port with the ftp client, for example a
GENTRAN:Server for UNIX Advanced Data Distribution system, may find
the firewall prevents access to the external system.  If the GENTRAN ftpd
is set up for port 505, ftpd will need outbound access to port 505 and also
port 504.
Answer
Yes, when connecting to a GENTRAN system using ftpd on a specific port will have to configure the firewall to ensure outbound access exists to that port, and also the port number minus 1.
