APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • If CANDLEHOME/logs contains many files, the pdcollect command
    
    fails to collect any logs. In the problem case, the logs
    directory contained 1010 files. When pdcollect was run, the
    underlying cp command reported the error:
    
       /opt/IBM/ITM/bin $ ./pdcollect
       ITM installation directory is /tivoli/itm
       Collecting environment information...
       Collecting system information...
       Collecting maintenance information...
       /tivoli/itm/bin/cinfo[1127]: print: bad option(s)
       Collecting disk space information...
       Collecting network information...
       cp: /etc/resolv.conf: No such file or directory
       Collecting running process information...
       Collecting log files...
       /bin/ksh: /usr/bin/cp: arg list too long
    
    Note also that pdcollect did not detect this error or a
    number of others that preceded it.
    
    
    RECREATE INSTRUCTIONS:
    
    1. Create up to 1010 files in CANDHLEHOME/logs.
    2. Run the pdcollect command and note the error. In
       addition, the logs directory in the pdcollect output
       file is empty.
    

Local fix

  • Manually gather the logs required for problem determination.
    

Problem summary

  • The pdcollect utility fails in collecting log files when
    $CANDLEHOME/logs directory contains more than 1000 log files.
    The failure is in "cp" command contained in the script.
    

Problem conclusion

  • Changed the "cp" command to avoid the limit in files list to be
    copied.
