APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
The arithmetic subagent uses the OID object a lot. This object allocates and deallocates uses memory in such a way that CPU consumption can be quite high when many of these objects are being used by a control row. We need to optimize CPU usage by reducing the amount of dynamic memory allocation.
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** USERS AFFECTED: Uses of the arithmetic subagent where the arithmetic subagent is monitoring a large number(thousands) of object ID's. **************************************************************** PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The OID object was dynamically allocating and deallocating memory for every instance of which there were many. In environments where the monitored control tables had thousands of entries this causes some excessive CPU usage. **************************************************************** RECOMMENDATION: Either upgrade to Fix Pack 8 form SSM 4.0 or if possible and practical change the configuration to use the genalarm subagent. The genalarm subagent while limited in functionality is more efficient that the arithmetic subagent. ****************************************************************
Problem conclusion
Altered the OID class to only use dynamic memory allocation if the OID length is larger than 32 elements. Otherwise the OID Object uses a static buffer. The fix for this APAR is contained in the following maintenance packages: | fix pack | 4.0.0-TIV-SSM-FP0008
