APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When compiling .f90 files, mpxlf_r gives syntax errors
because the compiler is taking .f90 files as the fixed
format source files instead of free format source files.

    $xlf_r -F:mpxlf_r example.f90 -c
    "example.f90", line 1.0: 1515-005 (S) Continuation line is not
permitted at beginning of program or after INCLUDE, EJECT,
    @PROCESS
statements or comment directive. Line is ignored.

Local fix

  • Use option -qfree=f90

Problem summary

  • mpxlf_r is a generic stanza, it should behave the same as xlf_r.
But xlf_r can compile the .f90 file while mpxlf_r can't, because
it defaults to taking .f90 files as the fixed
format source files instead of free format source files.

Problem conclusion

  • The compiler is fixed so that it treats
    mpxlf_r and mpxlf_r7
    as generic stanzas.

Temporary fix
