IZ21860: IPADDRESSTONAME FUNCTION TRUNCATES HOSTNAME TO IPADDR LENGTH

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Environment: ITM V6.2 Universal Agent.
  Problem Description: using the function ipaddresstoname
  within the metafile in order to get the hostname from a given
  ip address, the expected result is wrong because the
  length of the field that contains the hostname value is set
  equal to the length of the ip address string.
  So, in case of
  11.111.111.222 (14 chars length) should be hostserver1.dom.de
  but it is
  showed as hostserver1.do
  2.2.2.2 should be prova.domain.short.com but it is showed as
  prova.d
  Detailed Recreation Procedure: Use a metafile that includes
  at least two attributes, in example:
  //APPL IpaddrTest
  //NAME IPADDRTESTLOG E
  //SOURCE FILE d:ﾇtestﾇiplog.txt TAIL
  //ATTRIBUTES
  SourceIP D 40
  DeviceName (ipAddressToName = SourceIP)
  ----------------------------------
  After having imported the metafile, put into the file iplog.txt
  one of the address you want to translate into hostname values
  and look at the resulting string in TEP client.

Local fix

Problem summary

• When using UA's derived function named IPADDRESSTONAME in an
  attribute definition, if the host name of specified IP address
  is longer than string length of IP address, the resultant
  hostname value will be truncated by UA and the truncated
  hostname value will appear in TEP.
  

Problem conclusion

• The code was modified to correct the assigned string length of
  resultant hostname value.
