Error description
Env: AIX ITM FP05 IF01 Description: When using SNMP v2 MIB, traps display the wrong source name in the TRAP workspace. It was discovered that SNMP Trap OIDs are being generated with a trailing '.0' on OID values. The trap descriptions are being truncated because there is logic that loads a NULL terminator at the first occurance of a period '.' in the body of text read from TRAPCNFG
Local fix
A work-around to this limitation would be to replace all occurrences of period '.' in TRAPCNFG file found in body of trap descripion text. Customer replaced period with a space, however it appears that changing period to most any other character will work, for example changing period to a semi-colon ';' may be preferred.
Problem summary
KUMS_LoadTrapConfigurationFile(..) in kumsltcf.c is terminating the loading of a SNMP trap description when it first encounters a period '.' in the text read from TRAPCNFG file.
Problem conclusion
The maximum length supported for a SNMP trap description is 255. Code was removed that terminated trap description at first period '.' found in text. Code will now load up to 255 characters for trap description from TRAPCNFG file, loading period '.' just like any other character. Trap description truncation may still occur, if the description declared in TRAPCNFG file exceeds 255. If this occurs, the following RAS1 trace message will be logged, when trace level is set at KUMS_IS_DEBUG_IO or KUMS_IS_DEBUG_TRAP. Below is a sample message: "for TrapName <ibm3584Trap215>, description length is 383; it will be truncated. Maximum allowed Trap Description length is 255" The fix for this APAR is included in the following maintenance vehicle: | interim fix | 6.1.0.6-TIV-ITM-IF0005
