Problem
I am working in SPSS to recode some string data into numeric values using the options under Transform->Recode->Into Different Variables. Although my variable is created, each case shows as missing and I receive the following warning message: Warning # 4624 in column 12. Text: ) The preceding RECODE specifies a value to be recoded that is longer than some variable(s) in the recode. The shorter values will be padded with blanks for the comparison. What is going on?
