IBM Support

Can't connect spss client to server.

Troubleshooting

Problem

I tried an installation of SPSS Server on a Red Hat Advanced Server 3 sp4. The installation was conducted following the instructions. We also installed the odbc drivers. The server starts regularly. An SPSS client was installed flawlessly but we could not connect to the server since we get the error message: "Server is not running or not installed". Consider that: - port number is 301x and no firewalls are active - the server daemon seems to work fine (for instance, running a "show license." command from the spssb prompt works) - telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:301x can't connect from a workstation. However the same command (telnet localhost 301x) on the server works. - Oracle is also running on that server. Configuring oracle to work on 301x works, so we assume the 301x port is not the cause. - Trying to configure spssd to work on a different port gives no advantages, the same applies.
