Precision of SPSS numbers is failing to to allow for a 20-digit identifier.

Troubleshooting


Problem

User needs to create a 20 digit number to uniquely identify his cases, but the syntax fails once numbers get too large. Example of Syntax that fails as the resulting numbers are all identical until you get several thousand cases into the data: COMPUTE ID = 37202600904100000000 + $CASENUM . EXECUTE .
