I ran ncompact desktop8.ndk manually, nothing appears to be recovered: C:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes85>ncompact desktop8.ndk The ID file being used is: C:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes85\Data\admin802.id Enter password (press the Esc key to abort): 08/06/2009 12:32:42 PM Compacting desktop8.ndk () 08/06/2009 12:32:42 PM Compacted desktop8.ndk, 0K bytes recovered (0%) 08/06/2009 12:32:44 PM Database compactor process shutdown C:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes85> I then open the same Notes 8.5 client, and can successfully reduce the size via right click on the workspace, choose Workspace properties settings, compact.
Local fix
Compact the workspace from the Notes Client via right-click, Workspace Properties, Advanced, Compact
