Error description

  • The customer is experiencing numerous low memory crashes. The
    tasks are usually
    NSERVER.EXE or HTTP.EXE
The NSDs indicate a memory allocation issue with the veritas
    backup software.
Memory dumps are not showing a gradual leak, but instead memory
    is increasing
and decreasing within normal ranges, then suddenly when domino
    crashes, the
BLK_NSF_BACKUP_CONTEXT memory block shows 934MB memory in this
    block
alone. Customer explained that backup will fail and shortly
    after this domino
will also fail. The crashes indicate a low memory condition.
    nserver process
shows maxed out at 2 gigs of memory space. Customer has some
    large databases
two in particular, which maintenance will not run on because
    internal tables
    are maxed out. However backups
do periodically complete with out issue.

Comments

  • This APAR is associated with SPR# DSTT6APL83.
See tech note 1211241: Notes.ini variables to control the
maximum amount of shared memory the backup process will
consume before using temporary files on disk. The Notes.ini
     variable "NSF_Backup_Memory_Constrained=1" enables the feature
with a default size of 20Mb, the Notes.ini variable
"NSF_Backup_Memory_Limit" is provided to tune that size. The
     default is NSF_Backup_Memory_Limit=20000000.
