LO41889: ATTACHMENT SENT FROM OUTLOOK ARE RECEIVED AS ATT***.DAT

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Attachment sent from Outlook is received as att***.dat.
    
    Customer's environment is domino 7.0.2fp2
    Refer to TN# 1093342
    
    
    Changes to decode winmail.dat attachments were added to Domino
    release 6.5.6 and 7.0.2.
    
    To enable the fix a server notes.ini parameter has been used:
    TNEFEnableConversion=1
    
    
    
    But customer got the following attachment and decode it as
    
    att******.dat.
    
    ------------------------------------------------------
    
    Content-Type: application/ms-tnef;
    
     name="winmail.dat"
    
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
    
    ------------------------------------------------------
    
    And this mail send to yahoo.com, it is ok and the same
    winmail.dat displays as .pdf file named in English
    
    
    
    
    TROUBLESHOOTING:
    
    Asked customer to add the following debug parameter to the
    notes.ini.
    
    SMTPDebug=2
    
    debug_threadid=1
    
    console_log_enabled=1
    
    SMTPSaveImportErrors=2
    
    The message is written to a STxxxxx.tmp file in the system Temp
    directory.
    
    Received stXXXXXX.TMP from the customer.
    
    Setup 7.0.2fp2 test environment to reproduce customer issue.
    
    Steps to reproduce:
    
    Telnet to Domino server over port 25 and send smtp message
    
    
    Ran two tests with TNEFEnableConversion= enabled and disabled.
    
    >helo test.org
    
    >mail from:iii@test.org
    
    >rcpt to:admin@8org.com
    
    >data
    
    
    
    1. Test with TNEFEnableConversion=0
    
    Customer received a winmail.dat file attachment
    
    Outlook 2003 can open the attachment normally
    
    
    2.Test with TNEFEnableConversion=1
    
    Customer received an attachment att******.dat file converted
    by domino, but its name(******) is changed after opening it with
    notes client.
    Opening it with notes client and outlook2003, it displays as
    att******.dat,
