Error description

  • '/etc/resolv.conf' is not being a symlink on ubuntu deployments.

    While importing the ubuntu OVA file, if the user configures the
    network settings on VMware dialog, the /etc/resolv.conf appears
    as a file and not a symlink as expected.

    Because of this when the user runs the below command to refresh
    the network, it fails with an error:

    Warning: /etc/resolv.conf is not a symbolic link to
    /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf

Local fix

  • Create a symbolic link of /etc/resolv.conf to
    /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf

    Restart the network with command below

    ifdown eth0 && ifup eth0

Problem summary

  • The /etc/resolv.conf file should be a symlink on Ubuntu linux,
    but is a file.

Problem conclusion

  • Fix targeted for release in v5083
