Question & Answer

Question

How to change the friendly name for a certificate on the appliance?

Answer

Following are the steps to change the friendly name '1" to crm*,

1) Save the cert and private key(s).
SHELL> save private key /var/db/pki/userpriv/crm*.pem
SHELL> save certificate /var/db/pki/usercert/crm*.pem
2) Remove all PKI references to crm*:
CLI> pki cert delete name crm*
SHELL> keytool -delete -alias crm*
SHELL> keytool -delete -alias 1
3) Generate new key for crm*
CLI> pki keys genkey rsa name crm*
4) Delete newly generated key; replace with saved private key
SHELL> rm /var/db/pki/userpriv/crm*.pem
SHELL> mv saved private key to /var/db/pki/userpriv/crm*.pem
5) Continue using CLI in "normal" fashion to import cert chain for crm*
CLI> pki cert upload name crm*
Paste crm*.pem cert
Paste intermediate CA cert(s) for crm*.pem
CTRL-D
6) PKI keystore and java keystore should now have cert chain for crm*.pem and the alias/friendly name will be as specified via the CLI.
