Error description

  • ===============================================
    This is customer issue. Trying to open a server based database
    gives the following error when the database is opened using a
    particular user's user id.
    "Insufficient memory - too many design elements (Desk Design
    Pool)."
    The error is pointing to an issue with the database design but
    that does not seem to be the case as per the observations below.
    The user is unable to open his server mail file and archive
    mail file when accessed from the server using notes client when
    logged in with his own user ID file.
    The same issue occurs when the user tries to open names.nsf
    from the server.
    Also creating any new empty Mail file or database on server and
    trying to open using the User's user id also gives the same
    issue.
    When the user's mail file is opened by admin user id by
    accessing the server using admin client, it opens fine.
    Also creating a OS Copy or Replica of the mail file and opening
    it locally on the client using his own user id file also works
    fine. The user is currently using the local replica for the
    mail file as well as archive file and hence not blocked.
    The user has multiple user ids (3 including the one above) and
    mail files with the same name but different Organization
    Hierarchy.

Local fix

  • ==========================================
    1. Right click on the client and Click on "Workspace
    Properties" menu.
    2. On the Second tab, Change the Cache Size to some higher
    value like 250 Mb.
    3. Open the Database now, it should open the database without
    error.
    4. Now you may keep the size as it is OR change it back to
    original or lower and check if the database opens properly.
