Troubleshooting

Problem

Tivoli Storage Manager server NDMP SnapMirror to Tape (SM2T) restores can fail with NDMP session errors if the destination volume is too small.

Symptom

The following behavior can be seen in the Tivoli Storage Manager activity log during the restore attempt:

Cause

There can be many different causes of an NDMP session error. This document will focus on one specific error; there is not enough space on the destination volume.

Tivoli Storage Manager servers using NDMP SnapMirror to Tape restores.

Diagnosing The Problem

A Tivoli Storage Manager "adm bf af ss spi spid addmsg" server trace can be used to confirm that the destination volume is too small

Resolving The Problem

Increase the size of the destination volume, in this case "/vol/ndmp_restore" on the filer, and retry the restore.
