Error description

  • Customer is implementing Managed Mail Replica (MMR) by adding
    the following notes.ini parameter manually to a user's
    notes.ini:

    CacheMail=7
    CacheDbInitialFullDoc=90
    CacheDbFreeSpaceNeededInMB=10240
    CacheDbRemoveDocsAfter=0
    FailoverSilent=1
    ReplicateOnNewMail=1
    OutgoingMailSendThreshold=1

    Upon creation of the MMR, when you check the user's notes.ini,
    the values for the following parameter gets changed to the
    following values (which is actually the default value for the
    said parameters):

    CacheDbInitialFullDoc=30
    CacheDbFreeSpaceNeededInMB=0

    After further troubleshooting, we noticed that it happens when
    Dynamic Client Configuration (DCC) kicks in (you will
    see the message "Notes configuration settings have been
    refreshed" in the status bar).

    We were able to pinpoint that it happens if a user is assigned
    with a policy, specifically the Desktop settings policy. This
    can even occur even if you use a Desktop setting policy with
    all default values.

    When DCC kicks in, it takes what ever value is set on the
    Managed Mail replica section of the Desktop settings document
    of the policy regardless if there is a value in the Local Mail
    file field. (If this field is empty, the MMR section becomes
    hidden)

    Since customer did not touch this, current value is default and
    so the default value got applied.

    This was tested in Notes 8.5.3 and 9.0 on a Domino 8.5.3 server.

Local fix

  • As a workaround, please check the following:

    If you have an organizational policy:
    1) Open the Desktop settings document set for your
    organizational policy
    2) Go to Mail tab, Mail Settings section.
    3) On the Local mail file field, click on the drop down and
    choose "Create managed replica". The Managed Replica Settings
    section should appear.
    4) Put a check on "Don't set value" for the How to apply this
    setting section. (refer to the image above)
    5) Click on the "Local mail file" field again, and remove the
    value.
    This will hide the Managed Replica Settings section.
    6) Click "Save & Close"

    If you have explicit policies applied to affected users:
    Open each Desktop settings policy document and apply the same
    steps above.

    Our goal is to set "Don't set value" on all Managed mail
    replica fields so that it DCC will ignore the values.
