Opening a document results in error "This file could not be found"

Troubleshooting


Problem

Attempts to open a document using IBM Rational RequisitePro results in error "This file could not be found".

Symptom

The full error message is as follows:

Runtime error: This file could not be found.
Try one or more of the following:
* Check the spelling of the name of the document.
* Try a different file name. - Template: C:\Program
Files\Rational\RequisitePro\bin\REQPRO10.DOT
(RqWordServices.WordWrapper,248,5174)(RqWordServices.WordWrapper,431,1)

Cause

This problem is caused by corruption in the affected users Windows profile.

Resolving The Problem

To fix this problem, a new Windows profile must be created for the affected user. This solution should be performed by the Windows administrator, as Windows profiles can be configured many different ways.

  1. Log in to the affected system as a local administrator account
  2. Navigate to the windows profile for the affected user. The path will be C:\Documents and Settings\<username> on Windows XP systems, or C:\Users\<username> on Windows Vista systems
  3. Re-name the <username> folder (ie - Bob) in order to keep a backup of the current profile.
  4. Log in as the affected user, and a new profile will be created.

Please refer to Microsoft Knowledge Base article 811151 for information on how to copy data to the new profile from the backup.
