IBM Support

DPI of JPEG files obtained with the option Files>Save as Image File is too low (Actual: 96, Acceptable: 200)

Troubleshooting

Problem

When exporting diagrams to JPEG/JPG format using IBM Rational Software Architect, IBM Rational Software Modeler or IBM Rational Systems Developer, the produced images have low DPI (Dots per Inch).

Symptom

When imported into other tools such as Microsoft Word these images show poor quality due to the low resolution.

Steps to reproduce:
  1. Create a diagram in Rational Software Architect, Rational Software Modeler or Rational Systems Developer
  2. Right click on the diagram and choose: File>Save As Image File
  3. Choose the Format: jpg
  4. Right click on the produced image: Properties>Summary>Advanced

Result: You will see that the horizontal and vertical resolution are both set to 96 DPI.

This is too low to produce quality results once the diagram is imported in other tools.
At least 200 DPI would be required.
