Error description

  • If you use the LMINIT service to allocate a PDSE V2 data set
    configured for member generations, then use the LMMDEL service
    to delete a member, the member does not actually get deleted.
    If you use edit to create a new member with the same name, the
    previous member is stored as generation -1.

    The same problem occurs with the LMMREN service. If you attempt
    to rename a member using the LMMREN service, the original still
    exists. If you then try to create a new member with the same
    name, the original member is stored as generation -1.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * If the LMINIT service is used (with the DDNAME parameter) to *
    * allocate a PDSE V2 data set                                  *
    * configured for member generations and then the LMMDEL or *
    * LMMREN service is used to delete *
    * or rename a member in the data set, the generations of the *
    * member do not get deleted. A future *
    * edit to create a member with the same name, allows the *
    * generations to be accessed as previous *
    * generations.                                                 *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    * Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
    If the LMINIT is done using the DDNAME parameter, the PDSE
    version and number of generations values are not initialized
    when ISPCST is called.

Problem conclusion

  • ISPCST is modified to call CST_DELETE_GEN when uninitialized
    values are found for the PDSE version and the number of
    generations. CST_DELETE_GEN already contains logic to set the
    PDSE version and number of generations values and proceed
    accordingly.
