Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All Tivoli NetView for z/OS users who have * * PTF UA71612 applied. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Several possible problems can occur * * (one of which follows) after PTF * * UA71612 is applied. * * When attempting to load an empty PF key * * definition using the PFKDEF command, * * the following messages are issued: * * DWO050E FOR PROBLEM DEBUG: COMPONENT: * * QSAM MODULE: DSIQSGET RC: 1012 * * GET for SYS00255 , but DCB not open * * DWO970I PFKDEF : QSAM-READ FAILED WITH * * RETURN CODE +0000001012 * * And the PF key definitions are not set. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The NetView recovery and retry logic for some modules is not capturing the return code from the NetView DSIESTAE macro when an error (abend) is handled by the DSIESTAE macro. This leaves the return code set to zero causing the subsequent code to follow a path intended only for a successful completion of the preceding code. This path may eventually discover the error and issue messages (e.g. msgDWO050E and msgDWO970I) indicating a problem or possibly result in various abends. For example if a PIPE QSAM stage QSAM OPEN fails, the OPEN return code remains zero. Then the QSAM stage proceeds to do a QSAM GET which fails because the file was not opened. This results in the reported DWO050E message. If the QSAM PIPE stage is the one used by the PFKDEF command and it references an empty PFK definition member, the reported DWO970I message may also be issued and the PF keys may not get set. Other possible NetView components affected include (but are not limited to): - the following PIPE stages: MEMLIST, PPI, TSO, and UNIX. - REXX program termination where the EXECIO command was used without a FINIS argument and EXECIO command usage in general where errors are encountered. - the REXX STORAGE function when attempting to reference unallocated storage. These problems are the result of the erroneous fix for APAR OA43146/PTF UA71612.
Problem conclusion
Code in various parts are being changed to correctly set the return code from the DSIESTAE macro.
