Error description

  • Customer has added a CANZLOG CUE command to their SA shutdown
    sequence for JES2.  As part of shutting down the system HSM
    gets terminated and due to the CANZLOG CUE command, an archived
    CANZLOG file is recalled and messages ARC0050A, ARC0051A and
    ARC0055A are issued waiting for the dataset to be recalled.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: If a CANZLOG CUE command is issued and  *
    *                      Canzlog archive files (datasets) are    *
    *                      not available (such as if they are      *
    *                      archived by HSM and HSM is not active), *
    *                      the CANZLOG CUE command hangs waiting   *
    *                      for the data sets to be available. This *
    *                      can cause NetView termination to hang.  *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    During CANZLOG CUE processing, the equivalent of a LIST
    STATUS=CANZLOG command is issued internally to determine the
    status of the Canzlog function. This causes the code to
    determine the earliest time of any Canzlog'ed message available.
    If there are archive files to reference, it tries to find the
    earlies one. In order to determine if the file exists, the code
    tries to read it. If the file cannot be accessed, the CANZLOG
    CUE command hangs, waiting for the dataset to become available.
    If automated system shutdown includes terminating HSM and then
    issuing a CANZLOG CUE as one of the last steps, to ensure all
    relevant messages are archived, automation is lost because WTORs
    are issued to try to recall the Canzlog archive files.
    

Problem conclusion

  • CANZLOG CUE command processing is being changed to still get the
    status of Canzlog to determine whether this NetView can perform
    Canzlog archiving, but without referencing any Canzlog archive
    files.
