Caching problem for WebSphere Process Server (WPS) in the default configuration of Microsoft Internet Explorer Versions 6, 7, and 8

Troubleshooting

Problem

A known caching problem in the default configuration of Microsoft Internet Explorer Versions 6, 7, and 8 causes some browser-based applications to hang indefinitely.

Cause

This problem can occur when you use the WebSphere Business Space Administration widgets in the following sequence:

  1. Click a module name in Module Browser to view its details in the Module Graphical View widget.
  2. View another module or view specific module artifacts (for example, properties or policies).
  3. Try to view the details of the first module again in the Module Graphical View widget.

In this scenario, the Module Graphical View widget does not load the module details because Internet Explorer is configured to display a cached copy of the page instead of the new version that the widget requires.

Resolving The Problem

You can work around this problem by configuring Internet Explorer to load a new version of pages each time you view them:

Configuration steps for Internet Explorer 6:

  1. Click Tools > Internet Options.
  2. In the Temporary Internet Files section of the General tab, click Settings.
  3. In the Settings window, click Every visit to the page and then click OK.
  4. On the Internet Options dialog box, click OK.

Configuration steps for Internet Explorer 7 and 8:
  1. Click Tools > Internet Options.
  2. In the Browsing History section of the General tab, click Settings.
  3. In the Settings window, click Every visit to the page and then click OK.
  4. On the Internet Options dialog box, click OK.
