FTP fails when HFS runs out of space

Troubleshooting

Problem

Error EZA1490I accompanied by EZA2606W when FTPing file to z/OS.

Cause

When downloading a large file, the transmission fails with the following:

EZA1490I Error writing to data set
EZA2606W File I/O error 133

Diagnosing The Problem

Error number 133 is the errno that OMVS returns when trying to write the file in the HFS. As such, it is defined in BPXZERNO and has the following significance:

Errno: 00000085(133) : ENOSPC Description: No space is left on the device, or no space is available to create the IPC member ID.

Resolving The Problem

Check that HFS has not run out of available space. HFS can be increased by issuing the confighfs command.
