Error description
You are running CICS TS v5.1 and the webservice request now fails with a DFHPI1008 error message stating: DFHPI1008 XML generation failed because of incorrect input (CONTAINER_NOT_BIT ContainerName) for WEBSERVICE WebserviceName. The exception trace entry shows: 0F0B PIII *EXC* - INPUT_ERROR - CONTAINER_NOT_BIT Going to the PG domain, you can see that the container is set with DTYPE(BIT). The problem is due to the GET CONTAINER SET call: PG 1901 PGCR EXIT - FUNCTION(GET_CONTAINER_SET) RESPONSE(OK) DATATYPE() ITEM_DATA(00000000 , 00000000) Since the container is empty, the GET CONTAINER SET call returned a zero address and length, but it did not return the datatype. DFHPIII relies on the datatype being returned and determines the container was of the wrong type. Additional Symptom(s) Search Keyword(s): KIXREVRJL

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: DFHPI1008 XML GENERATION FAILED FOR * * WEBSERVICE * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** An application has issued an INVOKE SERVICE command and has created an element of zero length in a variable length container. During INVOKE SERVICE processing DFHPIII is called to generate the XML from the supplied language structure. It issues a GET CONTAINER SET, which completes successfully but the DATATYPE is not returned in the parameter list. When DFHPIII looks for the DATATYPE BIT, it is not set and DFHPIII issues an exception for INPUT_ERROR - CONTAINER_NOT_BIT, which results in MSGDFHPI1008. Additional keyword: PI1008
Problem conclusion
DFHPGCR has been changed to return the DATATYPE on a GET CONTAINER SET request when there is no data in the specified container.
