Error description

  • With CICS TS 5.4 and 5.5 onward, DFH0STAT fails with an
ABENDAEIP when a customer uses the Hourglass product to adjust
the time backward, due to DFH0STAT attempting to format a
negative time value. This started occurring because of the use
of the EXEC CICS EXTRACT STATISTICS LASTRESETABS command in
DFH0STAT. LASTRESETABS was introduced in CICS TS 5.4.
This APAR will change DFH0STAT so that it does not attempt to
format a negative time value and so avoid the abend.

Local fix

  • Modify DFH0STAT to not issue the failing EXTRACT command.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: DFH0STAT ABENDs AEIP when the elapsed *
    * time calculated by subtracting the last *
    * statistical reset time from the current *
    *                      time is negative.                       *
    ****************************************************************
DFH0STAT ABENDs AEIP when receiving INVREQ in an attempt to
use FORMATTIME with a negative time value.
The elapsed time calculated by subtracting the last
statistics reset time from the current time can be negative
after a clock change or when running with a simulated date and
time as may be provided by HOURGLASS or a similar product.

Problem conclusion

  • DFH0STAT and DFH0STSY are amended to assume an elapsed time of
zero when the calculated time is negative. This will avoid the
AEIP ABEND but statistical values that rely on the elapsed time
since the last reset, for example counts per second, will be
    unreliable.
